The Faculty allocates progress status categories at the end of each year, taking into account a student's results in all units taken in that year.
Undergraduates
Satisfactory progress
- Satisfactory progress is, when in a calendar year, you pass units to a valt least half the total value of units you are enrolled in.
- If you make satisfactory progress, you will be assigned the progress stuatus of 'good standing'.
- If you do not make satisfacotry progress, you will have 'unsatisfactory progress' recorded on your academic record and may be assigned one of the following by the Faculty:
- On Probabtion
- for failing a unit twice
- for failing to make satisfactory progress but are enrolled for the first time at this university gaining a weighted avaerage mark of at least 30% over units in which you are enrolled
- you must see an Academic Advisor before re-enrolling in the course and conditions may apply to re-enrolment.
- Suspended
- failed to make satisfactory progress for the first or second time
- not permitted to re-enrol in the course for a period of 12 months.
- Excluded
- failed to make satisfactory progress for the third time
- not permitted to re-enrol in the course.
- If you have been prohibited by the Faculty from further study or examinations in a unit:
- you will be reported to the board of examiners and
- may be assigned a progress status of 'Suspended'.
- Exceptional circumstances (e.g. death of a family member or extreme illness) will be taken into consideration.
Postgraduates
Satisfactory progress
- To make satisfactory progress in a calendar year, you must not fail units to the value of more than 12 points of the last 48 points undertaken.
- If you make satisfactory progress, you will be assigned the progress status of 'good standing'.

If you do not make satisfactory progress, you will have 'unsatisfactory progress' recorded on your academic record and may be assigned one of the following by the Faculty:

Suspended
- when a student has failed to make satisfactory progress
- not permitted to re-enrol in the course fo a period of 12 months

On Probation
- for failing a unit twice

enrolled for the first time in a postgraduate course in this University and
- not failed units to a value greater than 18 points in the first semester
- not failed units to a value greater than 6 points in the second semester
- gained a weighted average of at least 30 per cent in the units in which you remain enrolled after the final date for withdrawal without academic penalty.
- permitted to re-enrol for the following academic year, with restricted options for re-enrolment.
- Exceptional circumstances (e.g. deather of a family member or extreme illness) will be taken into consideration.
Appeals against results or progress status
- You may appeal against your results or progress status in accordance with the appeals procedure.
- Please note that an appeal must be lodged within 20 days of the release of results.
Application to re-enrol following exclusion
You should contact the Faculty about two months before the end of the second semester following your exclusion date and request an interview regarding re-enrolment.
