Students studying a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Computer Science (and degrees combined with these) are required to complete a period of work experience to complete their course.
See the Professional Practicum rules for the number of weeks of work experience required.
Students doing a CEED Project for their final year project are automatically credited with 8, 12 or 16 weeks work but are still required to write up a report on the work they have done. So that we know they are doing a CEED project, each student is required to fill in the Certificate of Practical Work Performed indicating they are doing a CEED Project. This is to be handed in with their report, as an appendix.
A prize is awarded for the best written Professional Practicum Report.
If you would like to be considered for the EGA prize, you need to submit two copies of your report. One copy is for the Faculty Office and one copy for the School, complete with certificates, spiral bound and clearly marked for Engineering Graduates Association Prize. The closing date is the last day of Semester 2. The prize will be awarded the following year at the Faculty Prizes and Scholarships Award evening.
Students are recommended to register on CareerHub to keep up to date with employment opportunities.
Students are NOT covered by the UWA Insurance cover if they are getting paid for their Professional Practicum. If you are NOT getting paid and have obtained written permission from your Head of School to undertake the work experience you will be covered by the University insurance.
Students who have military experience and are enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering or a combined degree with Engineering and who have completed the Part-time General Service Officer First Appointment Course as Army Reservists will be given credit towards the work experience portion of the Professional Practicum of four weeks.
Students who continue in the Army Reservists in an appropriate Engineering regiment may apply for further credit towards the Professional Practicum based on their individual service.
Students who hold military scholarships may apply to the Associate Dean for credit towards the Professional Practicum, and credit will be judged on a case-by-case basis.
