Calculator policy

Calculators must not be programmable or graphic calculators.

It is important that you engrave your student number on your calculator in case of loss.

If you need any assistance, please come to the Faculty office in the Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering building.

Calculator

Programmable calculators, graphics calculators and calculators that have the capability to communicate with other devices are not permitted in tests and exams in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics.

When you purchase one of these calculators, or if you have one already you must take it to have an "Approved Calculator" sticker attached to it. Calculators without the Faculty's "Approved Calculator" sticker cannot be taken into any examination or test. These stickers cannot be removed and placed onto another calculator.

Where you can obtain your sticker

Note: This applies only to students in engineering courses or the Bachelor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences or Bachelor of Computer Science courses. Other students must comply with procedures required by the relevant Faculty.

  • First Year students in BE, including combined courses. If you know which area of Engineering you will go into, go to that school's general office. If you don't know which area of Engineering you will go into, go to the following schools:
Surname beginning with School
  • A - E
  • Environmental Systems Engineering
  • F - K
  • Civil and Resource Engineering
  • L - S
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • T - Z
  • Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering
  • First Year BCM students go to the School of Mathematics & Statistics.
  • First Year BCompSc students go to the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
  • All 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th year students in the BE and BCompSc, including combined courses: go to your School's Secretary.
  • All 2nd and 3rd year BCM students: go to the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
  • If you are doing Mathematics units, go to the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
  • If you are doing Computer Science units, go to the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering.
  • Avoid the queues - you don't need to go on the first day as you have the first two weeks of semester to go to your School.
