The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (FECM) has an international reputation for excellent research across an extensive range of areas and is committed to attracting and retaining talented research staff and students. The wide range of state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment, together with strong links and partnerships with industry, ensure the development of new technologies and strategies to benefit the global community.

Over 150 academic staff lead the research program and many are world leaders in their fields of research. The combination of excellent staff and facilities allows FECM to offer a unique and innovative experience to the current 300 PhD and 30 Masters by Research students.

Faculty research is supported through national and international competitive funding, industry projects and UWA schemes. More than $30 million of research funding was secured in 2010, involving around 80 projects. In addition, $34 million was secured towards the “Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre” building and $14.4 million for the UWA node of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Geotechnical Science and Engineering.
