Asset Management and Reliability Engineering
Engineering Asset Management (EAM) is an inter-disciplinary field that combines technical, financial, risk and reliability skills to manage engineering and infrastructure assets.
Reliability Engineering develops a sound base knowledge of the mathematical concepts, models and tools in the reliability area.
Our professional development units are targeted at experienced engineers and managers. The unit outcomes deliver on specific competencies identified in the Asset Management Competency Framework developed by the Institute of Asset Management.
The assignments are designed to be integrated and aligned with current work projects thereby providing relevant context and immediate feedback for the student and value-add for the organisation.
Reliability Engineering - September-November 2012
Admission requirements and prerequisites:
- Bachelor of Engineering degree and at least 5 years of professional experience, or significant Reliability Engineering experience and competent maths/statistics background
Dates (provisional):
The course involves 8 days of workshops from 8.30am-4.30pm, held on the following days in 2012:
- 22, 29 September
- 6, 13, 20, 27 October
- 3, 11 November
Engineering Asset Management and Risk - June-July 2012
Admission requirements and prerequisites:
- Bachelor of Engineering degree and at least 5 years professional experience, or
- Bachelor degree and at least 5 years professional experience, or
- Trade or TAFE qualification and a minimum of ten years professional and managerial experience in asset management, maintenance, operations or logistics.
Dates (provisional):
The course involves 8 days of workshops from 8.30am-4.30pm, held on the following days in 2012:
- 4-6 June
- 27-29 June
- 19-20 July
Asset Management Plan - January-April 2012
Dates (provisional):
This course involves 12 Monday night workshops from 6.00pm-9.00pm, held on the following days in 2012:
- 23, 30 January
- 6, 13, 20, 27 February
- 12, 19, 26 March
- 2, 9 , 16 April
System Reliability Modelling - May-June 2012
Admission requirements and prerequisites
- Bachelor of Engineering degree and at least 5 years of professional experience, and successful completion of the Reliability Engineering unit ASST8423, or
- Demonstrated Reliability Engineering experience and competent maths/statistics background.
Dates (provisional):
This course involves 8 days of workshops from 8.30am-4.30pm, held on the days in 2012:
- 12, 19, 26 May
- 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 June
Questions to consider
If you are unsure whether these units are appropriate to professional development for yourself or members of your team, technical and administrative questions to consider include:
- Are the outcomes of the units aligned with your and your organisation's professional development goals?
- Can you attend classes at the UWA on Monday nights for a 12 week trimester?
- Can you leverage the content and outcomes of the units into your current work?
- Can you manage the additional work load (6-10 hrs/week) generated by the assignments and work for the course in addition to your current work load?
- Do you want the option of a credit for the unit if you undertake further professional development in the Graduate Diploma or Master of Business and Engineering Asset Management?
- Are you an Australian Citizen, Permanent resident or holder of a Temporary Business Visa (sub-class 457)?
- Do you have english as a first language, have you taken an undergraduate degree delivered in English or passed IELTS at 6.5?
- If the answers are Yes, then these units are suitable for you.

The cost for 2011 for applications through UWA Extension is $3,650 per unit.

Oil and Gas Engineering
Many companies in the oil and gas sector have used our Oil and Gas Engineering short course options to ensure their staff are trained in specific technical subjects at an advanced level.
Course options
Greater flexibility in the program means that there are options to attend daytime classes, evening classes and also to complete units online.
Units will be of one standard semester duration and have a value of 6 points.
Evening classes are a three-hour lecture once a week for 13 weeks (5:30 – 8:30pm).
Online units are offered on a semester basis.

Fees and enrolment

Continuing Education students (take part in assessed coursework/take exams, and will receive a final grade for the unit)
- Domestic Applicants (Australian Citizens, New Zealand Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents)
The domestic student fee for each module in 2010 will be $3,510. - International Applicants
If you are not an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen or a Permanent Resident of Australia, then you will be considered an international applicant. The international student fee for each module in 2010 will be $4,672.
ACCESS UWA
Looking for a way of studying Engineering, Computing or Mathematics at UWA without enrolling in a degree? The ACCESS UWA program, run through UWA Extension, is open to everyone and enables you to study units on a not-for-credit basis.
Note: you will still have to meet any applicable unit prerequisites.
