The field of Power Systems Engineering encompasses a wide range of areas in which power systems planning and design management, operation, control and protection are the key ones.

Course outline

The course consists of units to the value of 24 points.

The core units are:

Students must also complete 12 points of options which are chosen from:

  • Transmission System Design, Control and Operation
  • Energy Management System
  • HVDC and FACTS
  • Numeric Protection, Communications and Transducers
  • Power Quality and Corona Noise
  • Power Systems Control
  • Power Systems Modelling
  • units from appropriate programs at master's level, on the recommendation of the Head of School.

Admission requirements

A bachelor's degree offered by this Faculty or equivalent; or a bachelor's degree of this University or another recognised institution which provides appropriate preparation for the proposed course of study.
