This professional doctorate draws together a mix of advanced postgraduate coursework and research across the broad range of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

Course outline

Research preparation for the doctoral thesis is provided by the coursework units and the substantial individual project in Stage 1 of the course.

Stage 1: equivalent to the Master of Engineering in Information and Communications Technology and must be completed before progression to Stage 2.

Stage 2: doctoral thesis. Within six months of enrolling full-time in the doctoral thesis (or within nine months for part-time students) students must prepare a research proposal to the satisfaction of their supervisor and the Head of the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering. Progress reports are required to substantiate continued enrolment.

Admission requirements

Stage 1: a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours; or a Graduate Diploma in Engineering (65 per cent average or better) in an appropriate field of study; or equivalent.

Stage 2: completion of Stage 1 or a comparable Master of Engineering from another university plus substantial and appropriate professional experience. A student who is admitted to Stage 2 is credited with all units completed in Stage 1..
