I started work with a consulting firm in Perth for two years as a Geotechnical Engineer before moving to London in May 2002.

I joined Geotechnical Consulting Group (GCG), working on the Crossrail project, a new railway line that will cross London from west to east. My role included collecting historical information in the area near the proposed tunnel location (some records dating back to the 1800s), then scoping a new site investigation, supervising drilling holes on site (in the snow!) and then analysing the results of the investigation and drawing conclusions about the soil properties.

My engineering degree from UWA gave me an excellent foundation and prepared me for the challenges I have faced in my career so far. While based in London I decided that I would like to study for a PhD and after considering my options I concluded that UWA was the place to do it. So, I'm back!
