Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours in Environmental Engineering, 1993

My career has taken me interstate with a mineral processing company and overseas for a volunteer organisation. I am the Environmental Manager at the Alcoa refinery operation at Wagerup.

As a new graduate, I took up a position with Comalco's Boyne Aluminium Smelter(BSL), in Qld in 1994. I gained experience in the environmental laboratory before moving onto environmental management looking at licensing issues and improving environmental performance.

As a group leader for Youth Challenge I spent five months managing a team of fifteen Australians and Canadians working on community projects in Costa Rica. Returning to Australia in 1998 I worked for Kaiser Engineers for twelve months before commencing work with Alcoa, initially on the implementation of an Environmental Management System for the Pinjarra and Wagerup refinery residue areas.

The majority of my time at Alcoa involves assisting the refinery at Wagerup deal with the community health concerns around emissions; through managing new monitoring programs, undertaking community consultation, and ensuring compliance with licences and legislative requirements. As Environmental manager I face considerable challenges in continuing to improve Wagerup's environmental performance and helping to resolve local community concerns about the operations.
